About Emmalee Gisslevik

Ph.D. candidate in Food and Nutrition Science, with a Master's degree in Food and Nutrition Science and a Bachelor's degree in food, nutrition and health promotion.

Emmalee's Ph.D. thesis is adopted within the framework of the National Research School for Home and Consumer Studies (NFHK). The overall theme of NFHK is education about food and meals in the compulsory school subject of Home and Consumer Studies, (International: Home Economics). Emmalee specializes in education about food and meals in relation to sustainable development.

In recent years, the notion of sustainable development has become a clear mission in the Swedish compulsory school. The concept expresses an idea that society should function in such a way that the earth's resources is sufficient for people's needs also in the future. Today, there is no knowledge of what sustainable development entails in education about food and home-related issues in Sweden, and how the students respond to this knowledge. The goal of the thesis is to develop and strengthen the scientific base regarding education for sustainable food consumption in Home and Consumer Studies.
